Guides / A sentence building game for kids
Sentence Safari
A sentence building game.
For growing readers.
In Sentence Safari, children tap scrambled word tiles in order to build a sentence about a picture. It suits kindergarten to Grade 3, and the sentences grow longer as your child grows more confident.
How it works
Pick a topic, such as Weekend, Halloween, Autumn, School, Animals, Food, Family, Birthday or Space, and put the word tiles in order. When the sentence is right, it's read aloud and the next one comes along. Rounds are five sentences and start with an easy warm-up.
Grows with practice
- ๐ up to 4 words
- ๐ฆ 5 to 6 words
- ๐ 7 to 8 words
- ๐ฆ 9 or more words, with one extra word that doesn't belong
Four strong sentences move your child up a level, and a hard patch gently steps back down. Grown-ups can also fix a level in Settings.
Kind support when it gets hard
A first wrong try gets a short, gentle message. A second try brings an encouraging voice, and the next word glows. A third offers an optional calm breathing break, then places a helper word. When a child succeeds after a struggle, it praises the effort.
More than sentences
- Talk & Think: questions about a picture, from "What do you see?" up to "Why?" and "How do you know?", plus Phrase Remix for adapting familiar phrases.
- Put it in order: put picture cards in sequence, then retell it with First, Next, Then and Last.
- Talk Time: practise real-life situations. See conversation practice.
Grown-ups can add their own topics and sentences in the Sentence Bank, and progress (level, first-try rate, last 7 days) is kept on your device. Sentences your child types can become a printable tracing sheet.
