Writing Workshop
Free printable tracing worksheets.
Made for your child.
Make a handwriting practice sheet in a minute: letters, numbers, your child's name or their own sentences. Print it on Letter or A4. It's free, with no sign-up.
What you can put on a sheet
- ABC and abc: capital letters, small letters, or both side by side (Aa Bb Cc).
- Numbers: 1 2 3 and up.
- Words and sentences: ready-made food words and sentences, or type anything, such as your child's name.
- My own words: sentences your child typed in Sentence Safari, ready to copy by hand.
- Just typed: the words from a round of Typing Safari, so typing practice turns into pencil practice.
Three ways to practise
- Trace: every line is light dotted letters to trace over.
- Trace + write: a dotted line, then an empty line to write it on their own.
- Fade away: light, then lighter, then empty, so support fades as confidence grows.
Turn on Starting dots to number where each stroke begins (1, 2, 3), the most useful hint when a child is still learning how to form letters. Fill each line repeats a letter or word across the whole row.
Sizes that match the grade
- Big (Kindergarten): capitals 20 mm tall.
- Medium (Grade 1): capitals 14 mm tall.
- Small (Grades 2–3): capitals 10 mm tall.
Choose Letter (8½ × 11 in) or A4, and add an optional title and a name-and-date line.
Made to print cleanly
Sheets use classic primary ruling: a solid top line, a dashed middle line and a solid baseline, with g, j, p, q and y dropping below. The letters are upright ball-and-stick print in light grey dots, so they print well in black and white. Only the sheet prints, never the buttons around it, and a practice line never splits across two pages.
