Sensory play
Calm sensory activities.
For a quiet moment.
Gentle, low-pressure activities for winding down, taking a break, or building hand control. They're designed with sensory needs in mind: quiet by default, no flashing, big touch targets and forgiving success.
Activities to try
๐ Calm Patterns
A calm corner. Move a finger to paint glowing, symmetrical mandalas that softly fade. Choose 6, 8 or 12-fold symmetry, or press Keep to stop the fade.
๐จ Color Splash
Free finger painting with a calm palette, three brush sizes, glow, rainbow and mirror (butterfly) symmetry, plus an eraser and clear.
โจ Sand Tracing
Trace numbers, letters, shapes and pictures in soft sand, with a grainy or glowing sand feel, adjustable brush size and an optional voice. A small star burst rewards each finished shape. For letter-by-letter handwriting, see how to teach letter formation.
๐ญ Mazes
Guide the mouse to the cheese in easy, medium or hard mazes. Walls can't be crossed and a trail shows where you've been, so it never becomes frustrating.
๐ต Connect the Dots
Touch the dots in number order to reveal a star, a house, a fish and more. It's forgiving: just drag toward the glowing next dot.
Using them well
- Offer one as a planned break, not only when things have already gone wrong.
- Keep the same activity for calm moments, so it becomes a familiar signal to slow down.
- Sound is optional, and can be turned off in each activity's โ๏ธ settings.
